What if it was your child?

As the media has shown, young people in detention centres across Australia experience brutal treatment that violates their human rights, including assaults, food restriction and solitary confinement. This has led to numerous riots, and staff are often ill-equipped to cope with or address the numerous issues these young people present.

Despite numerous inquiries into the failings of the youth justice system, and falling numbers of children incarcerated, however, youth prisons continue to be built. Indeed, most government money is still spent on custodial rather than other, more positive solutions.
